Wk9- Artist Conversation- David DeSantis

David DeSantis was the artist I got to interview for this week’s artist conversation. He is a senior at CSULB and he will be graduating with a bachelor of fine arts, in the print making category. The gallery that he had in the Dr. Maxine Merlino Gallery was his first here at CSULB, but his 4th gallery overall. DeSantis is in deed interested in attended grad school after CSULB, but he noted that he wouldn’t join it right away. He states that he enjoys working in a job he has and doing art at the same time; he will join grad school when he thinks he is more prepared or ready. DeSantis was actually not in screen printing when he first entered CSULB. He discussed that in the first week of school he was getting a tour of the different classes in the art building and he ran into a screen printing class. He made it clear that as soon as he stepped into the printing class he knew he wanted to at least try it; he dropped the art class he was taking at the time and added himself to the screen printing class that same day. DeSantis says that he has always been interested in art; when he was 4 years old he used to draw motorcycles but then stopped. He was then inspired by Jackson Pollock, which I can see a resemblance in his work. DeSantis does his art while hearing his favorite type of music, dubstep. He states that he has one song in replay or has a playlist of only dubstep playing. His work takes around 2-3 days, he likes spending around 8 hours per day. The two art pieces that I took pictures of (WHICH ARE BELOW) are my personal favorties of the work he had up. Both of them look a bit similar to Pollock works but of course DeSantis added his own touch into them. One of the pieces has a wolf with his mouth open wide, which I think looks awesome.

David DeSantis is chill and cool in my opinion and a very nice person. He gave me and other students his Instagram, which is @rapturefineart. In the future DeSantis wants to open a website that includes his art and hope to be featured in other galleries; which I think would be easy, if he continues his hard work.
